Safety

At J.A. Fielden, we’re as committed to safety as we are to finishing projects on-time and on-budget. And we feel it’s equally important to our clients.

That’s why we have strong and on-going safety programs in place for both our employees and our subcontractors. Our Director of Compliance, Shelma Wolfenbarger, works closely with all of our Project Managers, Superintendents and Field Personnel to implement all of J.A. Fielden’s safety procedures.

Some of the safety efforts we keep in place:

  • Safety training, updated annually
  • Workplace hazard reduction
  • First aid and CPR training of all Fielden personnel
  • Mandatory job safety standards enforcement including weekly safety meetings with employees and subcontractors. Written documentation of the meeting must be submitted and is kept on file.
  • Participation on the drug free work place program, including substance abuse awareness and recognition training
  • Employee rights and responsibilities

We’re proud of our safety record at J.A. Fielden and welcome a chance to discuss it with potential clients.

Certifications

Stormwater/Environmental
With each passing day protecting the environment becomes more important to virtually everyone. At JA Fielden, we’ve been focused on handling environmental issues for some time now. We’re proud of the expertise we’ve developed/

Our primary goal is to control soil and pollutants that originate on the site and prevent them from flowing to surface waters…doing so with full awareness of federal, state and local environmental laws, regulations, ordinances, permits and other requirements applicable to large construction projects. Areas of focus include prevention, abatement and elimination of pollution and/or protection of the environment, including storm water, wetlands protection and asbestos abatement.

J.A. Fielden has a complete Storm Water Compliance Team that monitors all projects during the construction phase.

Each Compliance Team Member, Project Manager and Superintendent has been certified by CPSEC, Inc. under the Certified Professional in Erosion & Sediment Control Program (approved by Federal EPA) and receives at least six hours of classroom training and written exams annually.

Our Storm Water Compliance Team is familiar with all permits, laws, regulations and documentation that are required through the state including Threatened and Endangered Species and Historic Properties.

We begin dealing with these issues before construction even begins by requiring a meeting to be held with the Site Contractor, Superintendent and CEC to ensure the proper installation of BMP’s, getting all applicable permits and updated erosion control drawings prior to initiation of ground-disturbing activities.

Environmental work continues throughout the project. While we work hard to avoid it, should any accidental spill occur, immediate action will be undertaken to contain and remove the spilled material. All hazardous materials will be disposed of in the manner specified by local, state and federal regulations and by the manufacturers of such products. Any spills of hazardous materials in quantities in excess of Reportable Quantities as defined by EPA or the state regulations, shall be immediately reported to the proper authorities.

At JA Fielden we focus significant attention to environmental issues…not just because of legal requirements, but because it is the right thing to do.

State Laws

Immigrant/Employee Verification
JA Fielden has done work in more than a dozen states and met immigration and verification standards everywhere we have worked. We understand these issues are important not just to the government, but to our clients as well.

The key to our system is controlling access to the jobsite. Access is dependent on a Worker ID Badge, and badges are issued through a strictly enforced program that requires documentation. In addition, we maintain a single entrance/exit from our worksites so that we may accurately check badges for everyone coming and going. We also perform random badge checks on the job site.

Key to the program:

  d. Owner Responsible Employees

    ii. Owner Subcontractor

III. Purpose of Badge
  a. Identify those on jobsite as verified legal workers
  b. Identify those on jobsite as waiting for verification
  c. Identify who on jobsite is a visitor

IV. Who Wears Badges
  a. Everyone working on a jobsite
  b. Anyone visiting a jobsite - excluding delivery drivers

V. How to Receive a Badge
  a. Verified Employee MUST have Citizenship and I-9 Compliance forms signed and on file with respective employer for each specific project
  b. JAF MUST have verified employee list from each subcontractor

These stringent standards allow us operate with confidence that verification and immigration issues will not be problems at our jobsites. We know the rules and we make sure they are followed.
